Sabah Trip (Day 1)

on October 21, 2011

10/14, flight was scheduled at 4PM and bus seats reserved.  The bus was supposed to arrive 12PM and leave immediately to make it to DMIA (Diosdado Macapagal International Airport) by 2PM.  Left home 10:30AM for the bus terminal (home is less than 15 mins. away), and arrived at SM Megamall by 12noon (just at the nick of time) because of the shopping sale events of SM and Robinson’s malls.  The bus was greatly affected by the traffic as well hence not arriving on the agreed schedule.  Of course, we were worried as hell on how to get to the airport on time, but, being in the Philippines, there will always be cabs for hire on cases like these.  Although we had to add less than 300pesos more, we were left with no option.

Reached the airport right on schedule (with little time to spare), and checked in our luggage.

Now we’re off to Kota Kinabalu.  Phew!

Since we were flying via a budget airline, I expected low.  But I didn’t expect this.

Poor fly. 😐

Arrived in Sabah a little past 6PM and was welcomed by the terrible and longest queue in the immigration.  I do not know why, but there seemed to have a lot of people being held up, and it was such a bummer!  When we finally got off these lines, we went to the airport taxi counter, gave the hotel name, paid 30 ringgit in exchange of a ticket we presented to a taxi attendant and handed it over to the cab driver.

Kota Kinabalu reminded me so much of Abu Dhabi in UAE, the buildings, the weather, and even the smell of the taxi. 😀

Arrived at the hotel by 7ish…

We kept on pressing that bell but no attendant came to help with our luggage, so we had to carry it ourselves and climb up two flight of stairs.

The location of our hotel was absolutely perfect.  It was near everything, including a mall which I learned to love overtime. 🙂  Having had no decent lunch, we decided to go explore the nearest mall, Suriah Sabah and this was dinner.

After supper, we walked around the city for a bit, went back to the hotel to get some rest, for tomorrow will be a long day.

Hey just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same results.
